The GSI130 (244-130-000-20) is a galvanic separation unit designed to provide electrical isolation between sensors/signal conditioners and signal processing systems. It is suitable for two-wire transmission systems, supplying power to the sensors and signal conditioners while simultaneously reading their output signals.
In broader applications, the GSI130 can power any electronic system with a current consumption of less than 20 mA. The unit outputs a voltage signal proportional to the current consumed by the signal conditioner; this voltage signal can be used directly to analyze the conditioner's output.
The GSI130 module effectively prevents issues—such as ground loop interference—caused by voltage differences between the measurement point and the signal processing equipment. Using the GSI130 eliminates the need for Zener barriers, which would otherwise introduce additional voltage drops and limit both transmission line length and system dynamic range.
